Italy is THE destination in the whole world I have most wanted to travel to (Merv has already been) and finally landing was a dream come true!
We landed 30 minutes early in Rome from Dubai via Bahrain with a pretty painless flight and was greeted by Merv’s cousin Michele. It was good to see him as we hadn’t seen him since January last year and hugs were had.
With the trolley loaded with bags we headed to the car to take the hourish long trip from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Bracciano and as the trolley only had 1 wheel at the front and we are still plane sleepy, Merv hit a ditch and the trolley lurched forward and the bags went flying…. Oops hope nothing is broken! (Later he discovered that the trolley fall fixed the camera that was broken dune bashing days earlier in Dubai)
We arrive at Casa de Prola and Merv’s aunt Jo Jo (and the two dogs Pato and Jove and 3 cats) have a coffee and chat and realise we are actually a little tired so head to our room for a nap. After waking up slightly more refreshed we head out with Jo Jo for a drive and say Hi to Bea, Merv’s other cousin at the pool where she has her swimming lessons and then head off to take a look at Bracciano and the lake that it sits next to.
Bracciano is beautiful with cobblestone roads and alleyways and little shops everywhere and the lake is the biggest I have seen and the Castle (The one that Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes were married in) that is just above it on the hill is magnificent. We take a walk along the lakes edges then head back to the car to head to the next town on the lake.
Trevignano and Aunguillara share the perimeter of the lake with Bracciano and all three are lovely little towns with their own little quirks and quaintiness.
It’s now that I realise that I’m in Italy!!!
